What are your most nostalgic childhood memories?

Running a sweet shop means that i hear loads of nostalgic childhood memories from my customers. If i could have a penny for every time i childhood memory i hear then i’d be a rich lady!
Favourite TV Shows – The A-Team (always fancied Face!), Dukes of Hazard, Wacaday (loved the game Silly Senses), Jim’ll Fix It (though he didn’t fix it for me…..ever), Thundercats, Button Moon
Favourite Sweets - Dip Dabs, Kola Cubes, Mintolas & Pacers
Favourite Games - Laggy (not sure if this was just an elastic game in Masham school), What’s the Time Mr Wolf, Dodgeball

Here are some of my nostalgic happy childhood memories:-
1. Watching The A-Team on a Saturday afternoon with my sister and 4 brothers, as soon as i hear “dur dur dur…..” i’m transported back to the playroom sitting on bean bags squinting at the tiny portable tele we had!
2. Dad picking me and my sister up from riding lessons and being allowed either a packet of Mintolas (bit like After Eights) or Munchies – remember those?
3. Going Logging on a Sunday – I grew up on a farm and we all had to go to help dad logging in the winter months, it was good fun, though we always used to all fall out. The smell of sawdust…and i’m right back there!

Now that the weather is finally starting to warm up (slightly, i admit!) i thought i’d let you know about some of the great things to do in and around Masham. I expect lots of people are already starting to plan their Easter, Half Term or Summer Holiday, so why not come and visit us here in the Yorkshire Dales! So, here we go….

10. Visit to Brymor Ice Cream Parlour – over 30 flavours to choose from and have a look around the farm too!
9. Fountains Abbey - The Wonder of the North
8. Uredale Glass - visit one of Britain’s favourite Glassblowers
7.Wensleydale Creameries - a visit to see how “Real” Wensleydale Cheese is made – Gromit’s favourite!
6. The Forbidden Corner - an ABSOLUTE MUST! A secret garden with a difference….
5. Take a walk in the Yorkshire Dales, so many lovely walks to choose from, have a look at the VisitMasham website for some detailed walks.
4. Theakstons Brewery – The oldest brewery in town, complete with their very own cooper
3. The Gallery - A brilliant gallery showcasing loads of fab artwork from local artisits. Lovely children’s toys and other fab gifts too!
2. Black Sheep Brewery - Fine brewery making a top ale, and you might see my brother Dan in the brew house (brewing, not drinking!)
1. Bah Humbugs Sweet Shop The BEST sweet shop around, need i say more! A shameless plug, but it had to be Number 1 didn’t it?

Can any of you come up with any other suggestions, say in a 10 mile radius of Masham, Yorkshire Dales?

Have you seen the missing Jelly Belly Jelly Bean Elvis?

For those of you who are regular customers to Bah Humbug Sweet Shop, you may remember us having a wonderful portrait of Elvis in the shop made entirely out of thousands of Jelly Belly Jelly Beans. Well, we had hoped to get him to come and visit again at Easter, but we’ve just learned that he’s gone missing!! How can something of this size go missing?? If anyone comes across it on your travels then please do let us know. I’m sure a reward of Jelly Belly Jelly Beans could be paid for a safe return!!

Retro Favourites from the Retro Sweet Hamper

We’re busy in Bah Humbugs getting together all the orders ready for Father Christmas to collect on Christmas Eve. The most popular gift is the Retro Sweet Hamper, which is full of nostalgic tuck shop treats like Dip Dabs, Black Jacks, Popping Candy, Fruit Salads, Love Hearts, Parma Violets, Anglo Bubbly, Refreshers, Candy Whistles…….etc.

But our elves aren’t just busy making up Retro Hampers, they are also making more and more Liquorice Sweet Hampers. It would seem that Liquorice is an extremely popular sweet and this hamper is proving to be the perfect gift for those people who like the black stuff.

Bah Humbugs on Emmerdale

We were delighted to see Bah Humbugs on ITV’s Emmerdale today. Bah Humbugs Sweet Shop is being used in one of the bumpers to advertise Tombola.co.uk. The shop was filmed about six weeks ago but there was no guarantee that it was going to be used. The only trouble is i missed our debut!! I’ve been reliably informed by several customers that it was definitley on and it will be used throughout the sponsorship period – so keep your eye out!!
